Check the Model Number - Is your saw a Black & Decker Model BT2500?

Bosch Circular Saws, CS10, CS20, CS20-XC Models

Manufacturer: Robert Bosch Tool Corp.

Hazard: The lower blade guard can malfunction, creating a risk of injury as severe as amputation.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of malfunctioning lower guards, including one amputation.

Description: The recall circular saws include the BOSCH CS10, CS20 and CS20-XC models, which can be identified on the product nameplate mounted on the top of the motor housing. The recalled models do not have an asterisk (*) in the serial number box. The circular saw uses a 7?-inch blade and has a blue handle and motor enclosure, and a metal guarding system. The name “BOSCH” is printed on the blade guard.

Sold At: Home Depot, Lowe’s and Menards nationwide, as well as independent hardware retailers and industrial distributors, from February 2004 through April 2005 for between $120 and $150.

Remedy: Consumer should stop using the circular saws immediately and contact Robert Bosch Tool Corp. to receive a repair kit. The kit includes hardware and instructions for installation.

These saws were sold without a guard covering the entire blade.

Craftsman 1-1/2 HP Router with Carry Bag
Sears Item # 17518

Sold from November 2002 through January 2003

A press release issued March 27, 2003, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and Sears announced a voluntary recall of Craftsman 1-1/2 HP Router with carry bag. The on-off switch on these routers could stick in the "on" position, posing a risk of serious cuts to the operator and bystanders. Sears has not received any reports of injuries or incidents.

This recall involves Craftsman routers, model # 315.17510, with date codes of A0304 or lower, which were packaged with a cloth carry bag under item # 17518. The model numbers and date codes are printed on a black data label located on the electric motor's housing. Routers sold without the carry bag are not affected. The affected routers have an aluminum base with black handles and a black motor.

Craftsman Table Saw rip Fence

Craftsman table saw model number 137.21830.

Name of Product: Table Saw’s Rip Fence Assembly

Units: About 41,800

Manufacturer of Rip Fence: Rexon Industrial Corp. Ltd., of East Windsor, Conn.

Distributor/Retailer: Sears Roebuck and Co., of Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Hazard: The rip fence – a metal guide that keeps material being sawed from shifting side to side as it passes through the cutting blade – can come loose. This could result in kickback of the material being sawed and possible injury to the operator.

Incidents/Injuries: Rexon on behalf of Sears has received 230 reports of the rip fence bracket coming loose. No injuries were reported.

Description: The rip fence on these saws is made of silver extruded aluminum, is 31inches in length, and has an over-locking handle with a black die-cast aluminum head. They were included with Craftsman table saw model number 137.21830.

Sold at: Sears stores nationwide from August 2002 through November 2004. The cost of complete table saw is about $399, and the cost of the rip fence is about $40.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: The firm will provide free replacement parts with instructions to consumers.

Dewalt and Black & Decker Battery Chargers

Two models of each , they may not shut off after battery is fully charged, which can cause the battery to burst.

Black & Decker model numbers 97015 and 97016 on the front of the charger and date codes 9616 through 9752 on the bottom.

Dewalt Circular Saws
 
The recall involves 7 1/4-inch circular saws with the model numbers DW368, DW368K, or DW369CSK. The model number is located on a black label near the handle of the saw, or on a yellow sticker attached to the carrying case. The saws have date codes 200128-F through 200152- F stamped on the bottom of the motor case. The housing is yellow and the word "DeWALT" is printed on the upper blade guard.

The spindle on the saw may slip, causing the blade to contact the lower guard, posing a hazard to the consumer from an exposed blade.

Home centers and hardware stores nationwide sold the circular saws from July 2001 through December 2001 for between $120 and $135.

Consumers should stop using the circular saws immediately and return them to the nearest DeWALT service center for a free repair. Hitachi Circular Saws
 
Hitachi Koki U.S.A., Ltd., of Norcross, Ga., is voluntarily recalling about 14,300 circular saws. The lower blade guards on these saws can stick in the open position, exposing the blade and posing a serious laceration hazard.

The recall involves 7 1/4-inch circular saws with model numbers C7SB2 or C7BD2 and serial numbers that begin with C62, C72, C82, C92, C02 or CN2. The model number is located on the green nameplate on the motor housing below the name "Hitachi." The serial number is stamped at the lower right of the nameplate. The saw's housing is green and the name "Hitachi" also is written on the metal blade guard.

Home centers, hardware stores and industrial suppliers nationwide sold these circular saws from August 2002 through March 2003 for between $90 and $100.

Hitachi circular saws with a circle stamped on the UPC label on the box are not included in this recall. Saws that have a light gray plastic stop between the upper and lower blade guards where they overlap also are not included in this recall.

 

Makita Orbital Sander

Makita U.S.A. Inc., of La Mirada, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 350,000 electric orbit sanders. The pads on the sanders can break apart during use and strike the operator, posing an injury hazard to consumers.

Makita U.S.A. Inc. has received 13 reports of pads coming apart, including three minor injuries that resulted from pieces of the pad striking consumers.

The recalled sanders include the BO5000 and BO5001 model numbers, which can be found on the silver nameplate on the sander's body. The sander's housing is blue and the name "Makita" appears in large white letters on the motor housing. These sanders were manufactured in the United States.

Home centers, hardware stores, and industrial suppliers nationwide sold the sanders from April 1992 through February 2003 for between $110 and $125.

Consumers should stop using the recalled sanders immediately and return them to the nearest Makita factory service center for a free repair. Milwaukee Tool Corp. Announce Recall of Electric Grinders

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp., of Brookfield, Wis., is voluntarily recalling about 24,000 electric grinders. The grinder's switch can stick in the "on" position, which could pose an injury hazard to consumers.

CPSC and Milwaukee Electric Tool have received 12 reports of grinder switches sticking in the "on" position; however, no injuries have been reported.

The recall includes the 15 Amp grinders that have a seven or nine inch disc and have the following catalog and serial numbers, which can be found on a nameplate on the top of the grinder:

Ryobi and Sears Oscillating Detail Sanders

If left plugged in, sander could go on unexpectedly and create a fire hazard.

Products: 1.2 million sanders, including Ryobi model DS 1000 and Craftsman models 315.11600 and 315.11639, made 5/93-4/97 and sold for $35-$40. Model number and brand name are on plate on side of sander. Serial number or date code is along bottom edge of plate. Serial numbers of affected Ryobi sanders end in digits 9318 through 9718. Affected Craftsman models bear the date code A4001 through A9717. Handheld tools are blue or black, 11 inches long, and weigh 1.6 pounds. Sanding arm extends forward and down from front end, and sanding head is triangular.

What to do: Call Ryobi at 800 867-9624 for free repair or replacement. Meanwhile unplug sander when not in use.


Ryobi Radial Arm Saw

Name of Product: Ryobi Radial Arm Saws

Hazard: Cracking of the plastic motor housing can cause the blade assembly to fall during operation, posing a risk of laceration to the operator or bystanders. The detachment may occur unexpectedly and without warning.

Description and Models: The recall involves all RA200 and RA202 radial arm saws. These are bench top models with 8 1/4-inch blades. Each unit has a data plate immediately behind the operator grip for the saw, which says “RYOBI 8 1/4" Radial Arm Saw” and either “RA200” or “RA202.”

Sold at: Home and hardware stores nationwide from 1986 through 1997 for between $200 and $300, and higher in some instances.

Manufactured In: The United States and Japan
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these radial arm saws and contact Ryobi customer service to arrange to return part of the saw for a payment of $75. No repair is available.

Wagner Cordless Drill Charger Base

Hazard: A defective battery can cause the charger base to overheat, causing the base to melt and possibly burn nearby objects.

Incidents/Injuries: Wagner Spray Tech has received 11 reports of the charger base melting, causing minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall includes 9.6-volt, 10.8-volt, 12-volt, 14.4- volt and 18-volt Wagner drill charger bases. The drills were sold in black and grey, and have the name “Wagner” printed on them. Model numbers involved in the recall are: W96DK, W108DK, W120DK, WB96, WB120, WB144, and WB180K. The model numbers are located on a label on the side of the drill.

Sold at: Department and hardware stores and through mail-order sales from January 1996 through December 2003 from between $40 and $100.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Stop using the charger base and contact Wagner Spray Tech for information on receiving a replacement charger base.
